How Can We Support You?
Your wellbeing is at the centre of everything we do. We know there could be a range of issues outside of Education that could affect you and our Pastoral and Therapies Team are here to support you holistically in maintaining your wellbeing. Our team will work with your Tutors, Employability Coaches and all other key staff you meet in your journey here to ensure that you are well supported.
Our experienced team includes:
- Pastoral Coaches
- Counsellor
- Speech and Language Therapist
Our aim is to enable you to have the best time while you are at college and with our support empower you to develop the skills you need to take care of your social and emotional health needs.
We will support you with your health and wellbeing, personal safety, speech and language, and spiritual needs.
With our guidance you will develop the skills you need to take care of your health and wellbeing. These include the ability to make choices, negotiate, be assertive, reflect on events and be self-aware.
If your aim is to live independently, we will assist you with a referral to your local transitions team, who will help you to find a suitable home. And we will work closely with you, your family and other professionals to make sure your choice of supported living is appropriate and the best to meet your needs.
Pastoral Support
We have a team of three coaches who are allocated across our class groups, this means you will have a specific coach for your class. Your coach will support you with 1:1s and they will link with you and your support network to complete your annual education healthcare plan reviews.
Counselling Service
Our fully qualified Counsellor is onsite with us for 3 days per week to provide specialist 1:1 support as required. As an HBVC learner you can self-refer to our Counsellor as well as being signposted for support by your Tutors or Pastoral Coach. Counselling provides you with a safe and confidential area where you can discuss a range of problems and difficult feelings you may be experiencing.
Many issues are addressed during sessions including anxiety, OCD, depression, anger, bereavement, and low self-esteem. Many of our students have found counselling beneficial and engage well.
The Counselling Service is also available for our staff at HBVC.
Speech and Language Therapist
Our Speech and Language Therapist is on-site for two and half days a week to provide support to you, the learner, and to help staff adapt and support your communication needs. We have an in-house referral system, whereby staff may identify areas of need in your communication.
Here at HBVC, we are committed to providing a communication-friendly environment and supporting individuals with varying communication abilities. We are communication inclusive and use a range of AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) to support our learners; and support you, as a learner, to develop your preferred communication method. We are registered with Communication Access UK (an initiative developed in partnerships with charities and organisations that share a vision to improve the lives of people with communication difficulties).
